    Test Strips vs. TV

I’m the first to admit that diabetes- is not a cheap disease. And sadly when I went from having an amazing health insurance company to…a not so amazing insurance company- my wallet felt it. And hard. I have always had weird taste in TV. I seem to always end up watching “reality TV” : cooking competitions, wedding shows, real housewives of somewhere or other. Soo it wasn’t a very hard decision for me when I was noticing how tight bills were getting and how I had no money to be

    Boundaries

Most people will tell you I have none. I say what I feel and am rarely uncomfortable. However, over the weekend I was put in a rather odd situation w Ollie: I had flown to TX to host my best friend’s baby shower  and couldn’t have been more excited for it!!! (and for it to be over with). I had spent months of planning, online shopping, finding the perfect wording for the invites, and making sure there was no angle of the theme I hadn’t thought of. I was beyond excited for my

    Duct Tape

As my older brother will tell you- “Duct tape fixes everything“.  I usually laugh and shake my head while I’d look at his latest contraption, all suited up with duct tape and faith. Recently, I found out just how right my brother was! (However, if asked if he was ever right, I will avidly deny that I ever made such a statement) I have amazing bosses. No, I’m not saying that in case they stumble across this…I just genuinely have the best bosses that anyone could ask for. (For

    Naked Blind Dates

Yup, that’s what I’d rather go on than the first appointment with a new endocrinologist. One of the things I liked about my last Endo was that the place he was in, didn’t smell like a medical facility. Probably sounds weird, but when you’ve spent so many (added all together) months in ER’s, ICU’s and other various areas of hospitals – the last thing you want is to just be seeing your doctor for a regular visit and having it smell like you’re about to put a hospital gown on an

    My best and worst trait

I’ve been called many things in my life. Some good, some bad. The one thing I’ve called called more times than anything else : Stubborn. From my parents, to my friends, to my bosses, to my doctors – Stubborn. It’s ironic really. While people usually say it to me as a bad thing…I take it as a compliment almost every time. Yes, I am stubborn. No, it’s not to be difficult – it’s to survive. I used to work for an insurance agency and had to go away to “school”. Like many typcial

    Skunk Dog

There’s my skunky pooch! The other night, my beautiful dog- Sushi- got sprayed by a skunk. It was an intense, weird, chaotic, smelly string of events for the rest of the night. Dog hair everywhere, lots of cursing and the need for many candles shortly ensued. I feel like this is how life is with diabetes. Calm, calm, calm -BOOM FREAKINGFRACKING INSANITY! Lately, my sugars have been totally nutty. I’ll have good numbers all day and then out of nowhere- I’ll spike to 500 or dow

    Pump Case = Cute Clutch

Taking my pump case out for the evening! Since the beginning, I’ve hated having to carry around a massive bag to keep all my diabetic supplies in. Of course, back when I was diagnosed, I didn’t have Ollie (my Omipod) so I had to carry: insulin vial, needles, alcohol swabs, tester, lancing device, extra lancets, extra test strips, glucose tabs and carb. And that was before the “normal” people things were added! Now, it’s a bajillion times easier! My tester and my PDM are one,
